Description:
Button charm string panel, large, rectangular board covered with yellow fabric w/many decorative black buttons on board covered with yellow burlap fabric. A Charm String has 999 buttons and no two alike. This fad started in the 1850's. Young girls collected buttons on a string. Before coming to the end of the 999 buttons, the charm was supposed to work and you would find a future husband. There was a secret button on the string. When it was showed to a friend, if they touched it and stop to admire it then that was the button to be given to them or they could choose another from the collection. This button panel was created by Mrs. G.A. Boothroyd.
